Changing schools is a big deal. It means making new friends, meeting new teachers, and going to a new place. To make sure that your child enjoys their new school, you must make sure they first know what to expect.
Make sure your child has taken the bus or subway route before school starts. It is important that they feel safe and know where they are going. Ride the route with them a few times until they feel comfortable enough to do it on their own.
Talk to your child about being in a new place and meeting new people. It is always tough to start over again.
Your child should also know what is expected of them, how grading works at the new school and if the work-load is different.
Help your child to stay active, by playing a school sport, or joining the school band, not to stop doing activities because they are in a new place.
Find out about other children in the same class that may live nearby and try to have them meet before school begins so your child knows someone on their first day or school.
