Types Of Records Included

In order to be listed in the Online Resource Database, agencies must provide a contact person, phone number, address, for administrative purposes. This can be unlisted. In addition, agencies and programs must allow to be listed an available and easy-to-reach method of contact (such as toll free telephone numbers, walk-in locations, FAX, e-mail, etc.) and regular contact person to ensure response to inquires about their services.

  • Nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based agencies providing a heath and/or human care service to the community. New agencies are required to submit proof of nonprofit status.
  • Federal, state and local government offices providing a health and/or human care service.
  • Organizations which offer a service to the community at large, not just their own members (e.g., civic groups, churches, social clubs, etc.).
  • Organizations which provide a unique community service not available in the nonprofit sector, or whose services are available at no charge or on a sliding scale.
  • Self-help support groups available through a non-profit organization at no fee.
  • Public or private housing providers that offer subsidized or below market rentals or financial assistance for home buying to low income families.
  • Public agencies providing a unique human service to the community (e.g., SMUD).
  • Non-profit or government agencies that provide informational, referral, or assistance as a public health and human call service.
  • Professional organizations, which provide free public service (e.g., professional referral services).
  • Special community service components of clubs or special interest groups (e.g. Lions Club, Soroptomists, Rotary)
  • School districts, colleges and universities. Special services offered by school systems.
  • Special service units at hospitals (e.g., drugs/alcohol treatment, burn unit, etc.)
  • State Licensed Facilities listing for nursing homes and child day centers (which may or may not be nonprofit).
  • Organizations under contract with a government agency to provide community based health and human services.

Resources not Included:

  • For-profit organizations and individual/private practitioners (e.g., attorneys, counselors, therapists, private physicians, etc.).
  • For-profit home care or financial planning businesses (e.g., home companions, chore workers, budget or investment planners, etc.).
  • Organizations providing services only to members of a certain group or club (e.g., counseling available to members of a particular religious group).
  • Private or for profit agencies or groups that incur a cost for information to a caller (such as toll calls, finders fees, professional educational fees).
  • Agencies or groups which misrepresent their services in any way.
  • Agencies or groups which deny services on the basis of color, race, religion, sexual preference, or nationality.
  • Agencies or groups whose service is illegal.
  • Agencies or groups whose services cannot be verified.
  • Agencies or groups whose services are relatively new (less than one year in existance).
  • Agencies or groups who have credible or serious complaints about their service registered against them.
