Many students need extra help outside of school. Some need help with a specific subjects or assignments, while others need help studying for a specific test. Tutors help students by acting as a teacher outside of the classroom. They usually specialize in a specific subject or age range such as high school English.

What You Will Need To Get Started   How Much Can I Make?  
  • There is no special permit or license needed to be a tutor, but training and experience in the subject you are tutoring in is necessary.
  • There are organizations that certify tutors for specific tasks such as tutoring for the SATs.
  • You should buy some basic school supplies such as paper, pens, pencils and whatever other teaching aides you think are helpful.
  • Getting the word out about your services will probably be your biggest start up cost.  Your best bet is to make flyers and distribute them at your local colleges, public schools, church and community center.
  • These websites have some good information and resources for tutors.

 

  • Most tutors charge between $10-20 per hour.
