Passwords protect your personal information online. A strong password is a password that is difficult for someone else to figure out, but one that you will remember.

Here’s how to create a strong password:

• Use a combination of capital (UPPER CASE) and lower case letters, symbols, and numbers. Most passwords have to be case-sensitive, which means upper case and lower case letters matter when you’re typing your password.
• Make sure your passwords are at least eight characters. The longer they are, the harder they are to guess.
• Be sure to choose a set of numbers and letters, instead of a complete word. However, make sure it’s something you can remember.

• Do change your passwords often. Once a month is a good habit.
• Do use different passwords for different accounts.

Don’ts:

• Don’t say “yes” when asked if you want to save your password to a computer, unless you are the only person who uses that computer.
• Don’t keep your passwords on your desktop.
• Don’t write your passwords on your computer or tape them to your computer.
• Don’t give your password to anyone else.
