Going to Settlement

Settlement (also called closing) is when the seller legally passes the house to the buyer. It can take weeks or even months. Understand the documents and fees you’ll need to make the process move quickly.

Pre-Settlement

  • Get comfortable with settlement costs by reviewing this HUD pamphlet. It explains the details and expenses of the settlement.
  • By law, your lender has to give you an accurate estimate on your loan before the settlement. You will have to get an official bank check to pay for the costs. Personal checks will not be accepted.

Know the Costs

Your fees will vary by state. See a breakdown of specific settlement costs and how to calculate the amount you’ll need.
